Under this class of safari vehicle hire we offer vehicles ideal and modified to enhance the game viewing experience.

The vehicles have a pop up roof ideal for wildlife viewing. The safari vehicles are fitted with a H.F Radio communication gadget to allow communication between safari drivers on sightings of elusive wildlife. Every tour member is assured of a window seat.

Our safari vehicles are highly maintained and in good condition making them ideal for off road travel in parks and reserves in Kenya. Our safari vehicles are also very comfortable and clean. The vehicles have ample space for luggage.

These class of vehicles is normally hired out with our drivers whom are very competent and also very knowledgeable on wildlife and different sceneries in Kenya. Our drivers exude a high level of etiquette and speak fluent English.

These class of vehicles has two options which include safari mini vans on 2WD and 4WD and land cruisers which are full time on 4x4. Our rates for this class of vehicles are based on unlimited mileage.

Kenya basic traffic rules

1. The rule of the road is to keep left.
2. Every passenger must wear a safety belt.
3. The speed limit is eighty kilometres per hour.
4. Observe traffic lights or commands by a traffic officer.
5. Every driver must have a valid driver's license and present the License when asked by a law enforcement officer.

Kenya Road Network

The road network in Kenya is classified into six different classes. First we have international roads which are marked A and connecting border points or ports. Currently we have seven such roads namely:

Secondly we have National Trunk (Class B) Roads which link provincial headquarters and other important centers to the capital, to each other or to the international road network, the roads are marked B i.e. B1, B2 up toB10 .

The third class is Primary (Class C) Roads which link district headquarters to each other and higher level roads or centers, these roads are marked C i.e. C54.

The forth class is Secondary (Class D) Roads, they link locally important centers to each other or a more important centre or higher class roads. These roads are marked D i.e. D201.

The fifth class is Minor (Class E) Roads and are defined as any link to minor (or local) centre in the rural areas. They are Marked E i.e. E101.

Finally we have Special Purpose (SP) Roads. Class SP roads comprise various types of special purpose roads under the jurisdiction of various Government departments and parastatals. These roads are marked G (Government roads), L (Settlement roads), R (Rural access roads), S (Sugar roads), T (Tea roads) and W (Wheat roads).

Requirements of hiring a vehicle in Kenya

Driving License

The hirer and/or authorized driver must have held a full and valid driving license for a minimum of 2 years up to and including the time of hire and that license must bear no current endorsements during the last two years. A driving license from the country of residence or an International Driver's Permit is generally acceptable, provided valid as above.

The hirer and/or authorized driver must be over 23 years of age and under 70 years of age. The hirer and/or authorized driver must also be able to provide proper means of identification other than a driver's license.

ID / Passport

We require identification documents when signing the car hire contract. Documents required are either a national identity card or a passport and the hirer's driver's license. We normally make copies of this documents which are filed and safely kept by Kenya Travel Car Hire.

Terms & condition of hiring a vehicle in Kenya

Payments

We accept payments in cash or by credit card. Upon confirmation of a booking a 25% deposit is required.

The rest of the amount is expected fifteen days before service delivery or the actual day of service delivery.

Payment via credit attract a 5% bank sur charge.

Fuel

All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel at the start of the hire. Customers may:- purchase this tank of fuel at a discounted rate and return the vehicle empty, or return the vehicle part full and be charged for missing fuel at the end of the rental at the locally determined price. Please note a surcharge will be applied for this facility.

Excess Deposit

On issuance of the vehicle and after receiving payments of hiring the vehicle an extra deposit is required to caution the company against damage of the vehicle or in case of theft of the vehicle during the period of hire. This only applies when the insurance company declines the CDW or TPW. This is a standard practice with insurance companies in Kenya.

Upon safe return of the vehicle in the same conditions as issued the deposit is fully refunded. In any case where there is damage of the vehicle an agreed amount between the company representative and the hirer is refunded.

Border crossing

Written authorization should be obtained from Kenya Travel Car Hire, should the hirer wish to cross a state border. Our rental vehicles will be allowed into Tanzania and Uganda. Kenya Travel Car Hire will not accept any responsibility if the hirer is refused entry into another country.

A cross border insurance fees is applicable and the fee depends on the number of travelers accompanying the hirer. For cross border formalities to be arranged Kenya Travel Car Hire should be informed at least 48hrs before the day of crossing the border. Any other cross border charges are payable directly at the border.

Chauffeur Services

Chauffeur services will be charged at US$ 15 per day inclusive of meals within Nairobi or Mombasa, between 08:00 hrs to 18:00hrs. Overtime will be charged at US$ 5 for every extra hour.

Chauffeur services will be charged at US$ 28 per day inclusive of meals and accommodation, for all other places in Kenya between 08:00 hrs to 18:00hrs. Overtime will be charged at US$ 4 for every extra hour.s

Security

The hirer should ensure that the hired vehicle is locked when unattended. The vehicle must not be parked in a public area for long periods. When CDW (Collision Damage waiver) or TPI (Theft Protection Insurance) is declined by the insurance company, the hirer financial responsibility will be the full value of the damage to the vehicle and loss related expenses regardless of fault.

If CDW is accepted by the insurance company the hirer bares no responsibility for the damage. For security reasons Kenya Travel Car Hire does not allow its cars to be driven to North Eastern region of Garisa and Maralal. In case there is an urgent need for such a journey, Kenya Travel Car Hire should be informed beforehand to seek police escort at an extra fees which the hirer will bear

Insurance

Theft Protection Insurance [TPW]

The Hirer's liability for theft of the vehicle is automatically covered subject to the terms and conditions of the car hire contract.

Collision Damage Waiver [CDW]

The Hirer's liability for damage to the vehicle is automatically covered subject to the terms and conditions of the car hire contract. Damage to tyres, windscreen and underneath of the vehicle is not covered.

Excess Liability Waiver [ELW]

Excess waiver is available for certain vehicles. This insurance cover protects the hirer/driver of having to pay any excess fees brought about by damage and /or loss to the vehicle.

Cancelation Policy

Reservations made, confirmed on-line and pre-paid on-line.

Unless you have cancelled your reservation in accordance with the above terms, if you do not collect the hired vehicle at the time specified on the prepaid rental voucher, no refund will be made. We will, however, hold the rented vehicle available for you for 4 working hours after the time of the reservation.

Reservations made, confirmed on-line but paid on pick up.

No charge will be made for failing to pick up the rented vehicle if you have not prepaid for your hire.

Reservations made, confirmed on-line or off-line.

If you do not arrive to collect the hired vehicle at the time specified as per the reservation and you do not inform us that you are cancelling the hired as above, we may charge your credit or debit card in accordance with the agreement made at the time of reservation, subject to a maximum amount equal to the value of the hire.

General Restrictions

On hiring a vehicle with Kenya Travel Car Hire it is required that the hirer be forth coming on exactly where he or she will be intending to travel to i.e. providing a day to day itinerary.
